Peterborough Jr A Lakers Welcome Dustin Dunn as New Assistant Coach

The Peterborough Jr A Lakers are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dustin Dunn as the team’s new assistant coach, joining the returning staff of head coach Robert Hope and assistants Jeff Ralph, Curtis Conley, and Taylor Evans. Dunn steps into the role previously held by Turner Evans, who is stepping away from coaching to focus on his young family with the recent birth of his third child, alongside his work and lacrosse commitments. A Peterborough native and lacrosse standout, Dunn brings a wealth of experience both as a player and coach to the Lakers’ bench.

A product of Peterborough’s renowned minor lacrosse system, Dunn enjoyed a distinguished five-year career with the Jr A Lakers, highlighted by a Minto Cup victory in 2006 and a selection to the Jr A All-Star team in 2009. His playing career extended to the collegiate level with the NCAA’s SUNY Potsdam Bears and in CUFLA with the Brock University Badgers. He also has professional lacrosse experience, having been drafted by the Buffalo Bandits in the NLL (National Lacrosse League), where he went on to play for the Toronto Rock. Additionally, he suited up for Brooklin in the MSL (Major Series Lacrosse) and the Nanaimo Timbermen in the WLA (Western Lacrosse League), showcasing his versatility and skill across multiple elite leagues.

Since returning to the Peterborough lacrosse scene in 2019, Dunn has made a significant impact. He coached the U13 Peterborough minor lacrosse team to a provincial bronze medal and, most recently, led the U17 Clarington Green Gaels (featuring a roster with half its players from Peterborough due to the lack of a local team at that age group) to an ‘A’ gold medal at the 2024 Ontario Summer Games. Earlier this year, Lacrosse Canada named Dunn as their Technical/National Development Teams Coordinator, a testament to his growing influence in the sport.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Lakers as an assistant coach,” said Dunn. “This organization and this city mean so much to me. I grew up in this system, won a Minto Cup here, and now I get to help guide the next generation of Jr A Lakers. It’s an honour to work alongside this coaching staff and contribute to the team’s success.”

Lakers head coach Robert Hope expressed enthusiasm about Dunn’s arrival. “Dustin is a fantastic addition to our staff. His experience as a player at the highest levels and his proven track record as a coach make him a perfect fit for this team. He understands what it takes to win in Peterborough, and I’m confident he’ll bring a fresh perspective and energy to our group.”

The Peterborough Jr A Lakers remain committed to developing top-tier talent and competing at the highest level, and Dunn’s arrival marks another step forward for the organization as they prepare for the upcoming season.

This year’s home opener is set for May 26th, 8pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, against the Oakville Buzz.
