Five New Faces Added to the Lakers Family at 2024 Entry Draft

Your Peterborough Merit Precision Jr. A Lakers made significant strides during yesterday’s Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) Entry Draft, securing five promising young players.

In the opening round, with the 2nd overall pick, we chose goaltender Waukiigan Shognosh from the Wallaceburg Griffins. Shognosh, backstopped Team Ontario to a gold medal at the Canadian U17 boys box lacrosse championship in Regina last summer.

With the 3rd overall pick, we selected offensive standout Zachary McLean from the Gloucester Griffins, who boasted an impressive 71 points in 23 games in 2023.

We then made a trade with the Six Nations Arrows, acquiring the 5th and 16th picks in exchange for our 13th pick and a first-round selection in 2025, using that 5th overall pick to select Mason Cree from the Akwesasne Storm. Cree was another valuable member who contributed to Team Ontario’s U17 gold victory in Saskatchewan.

Moving into the second round, with the 12th overall pick, we secured Matthew Ford from the Milton Mavericks, an offensive force who notched 88 points in 27 games last season.

With our final pick of the draft, at 16th overall, we chose Adam Trumble of the Orillia Kings. Trumble is a versatile athlete who excelled in three varsity sports – hockey, football, and lacrosse – at Culver Military Academy last year. Adam will be the third Trumble brother to play for the Jr. A Lakers; oldest brother, Ben, played last season while middle brother, Sam, is the current face-off specialist for the team.

Our 2024 season will kick off at the PMC on May 24th against the Six Nations Arrows.
